In short

What is Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable gels — most often hyaluronic acid — that restore volume lost to ageing, support sagging tissue and smooth static folds. Results are visible immediately, settle over about two weeks, and last from 6 months in the lips to around two years in the cheeks depending on the product and area.

Faces do not simply wrinkle; they deflate. Fat pads shrink, bone remodels, and skin that once had support begins to fold. Filler addresses that loss of structure, which is why replacing volume high in the cheek often improves a fold much lower down.

The process

How Dermal Fillers works

  1. 01

    Full-face assessment

We look at where volume has been lost, not only where you notice a line. Treating the cause usually takes less product than chasing the symptom.

  2. 02

    Product matched to the area

Soft, flexible gels for lips; firmer, high-lift gels for cheeks and jawline. Numbing cream and lidocaine within the filler keep the appointment comfortable.

  3. 03

    Injection with cannula or needle

A blunt-tipped cannula is used in higher-risk areas such as the temples and under-eyes to reduce the chance of bruising and vascular complications.

  4. 04

    Review at two weeks

Swelling has settled by then and the true result is visible. Top-ups, if any are needed, are done at this point.

  • No general anaesthetic, no incisions, no recovery period

Which filler is used where

Filler is not one product. The gel is matched to the job: soft and flexible for lips, firm and supportive for cheeks and jawline.

Common questions

Dermal Fillers questions, answered

Do dermal fillers hurt?

Most fillers contain lidocaine and we apply numbing cream first, so discomfort is mild. Lips are the most sensitive area and are numbed most thoroughly.

How long do fillers last?

It depends on area and product: roughly 6–12 months in the lips, 12–24 months in the cheeks. Areas that move constantly break the product down faster.

Can filler be removed?

Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, usually within a day or two. Collagen-stimulating fillers cannot be dissolved, which is why product choice is discussed carefully first.

Will filler make my face look puffy?

Overfilling does — placing too much, too superficially, or in the wrong plane. Conservative volumes placed on structure look like a rested version of your own face, not a different one.

What are the risks?

Bruising and swelling are common and temporary. The rare but serious risk is injection into a blood vessel, which is why anatomy knowledge, cannula use in high-risk zones and an injector who keeps hyaluronidase on hand all matter.
